Gooty Fort, historically associated with the name Gowthampuri, is an impressive hilltop fortress in Ananthapuramu district.

The fort occupies a group of steep granite hills and consists of multiple interconnected fortifications. The Andhra Pradesh government describes it as a complex of 15 smaller forts, linked by gateways and defensive walls.

Its history extends across several centuries. Inscriptions associated with the region provide evidence of its early historical significance, while later periods saw the fort connected with the Vijayanagara rulers, Qutb Shahi rule, Maratha leader Morari Rao and the British.

One of the most fascinating viewpoints is Morari Rao's Seat, a small pavilion positioned dramatically on the edge of the hill. From here visitors can appreciate sweeping views across Gooty town and the surrounding landscape.

The fort also contains temples, wells, reservoirs, gateways, bastions and ruined military structures, making it a rewarding destination for heritage explorers and photographers.
